Why did I decide to shoot an animated movie? Well, my background is pretty visual and when I decided to tell the story of CRULIC in such a particular way, I thought that it was easier to use this technique.
Born in 1962 in Romania, Anca Damian studied cinema and worked as a Director of Photography on two feature films, FORGOTTEN BY GOD (1991) and THE WAY OF DOGS (1992), as well as on many shorts and documentaries, almost all of which awarded with national prizes for Cinematography. She also worked as a director, screenwriter and producer on several award winning documentaries.
In 2008, Anca made her feature debut as a director, screenwriter and co-producer. CROSSING DATES (2008), a Romanian-Finish co-production, was selected at Pusan, Chicago, Goteborg, Pune, Cottbus, Goa and Rome Independent Film Festival. CRULIC – THE PATH TO BEYOND, her second feature which mixes documentary and animation technique, premiered in Locarno where it received a Special Mention. The film won the Best Feature Award at Annecy International Animated Film Festival, the Amnesty Award at CPH:DOX, the Special Prize of the Jury at Istanbul IFF and a special mention at Warsaw IFF.
In 2015, her feature animated documentary THE MAGIC MOUNTAIN screened at Karlovy Vary IFF.
