Synopsis

Letter to a Turtledove is a second artistic appropriation of amateur footage taken during the war in the Donbass Basin and combined into an anti-militaristic and surrealist film poem. Kavelina alternates videos found on the Internet with excerpts from her own animations, staged images, and archival footage of the Donbass Basin from the 1930s. At the time, the region was not only the home of Stakhanovism but also a mecca of Stalinist industrialization and unmistakable worker enthusiasm.
