Synopsis:

Born out of every artist’s creative crisis, the search for the next topic, Hirobumi Watanabe presents his latest film, dealing with the question of what his film should be about. The director stages himself as he idles away his days, delivering endless monologues during car rides, sleeping on the floor at his grandma’s house, and philosophizing over video games and the FIFA World Cup.

About the director:

Hirobumi Watanabe

Watanabe was born in Tochigi in 1982. After graduation from the Japan Institute of Moving Image, he founded the production company Foolish Piggies Films with his brother, the film composer Yuji Watanabe. His third feature POOLSIDEMAN (2016) won the Japanese Cinema Splash Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival as well as the Nippon Visions Jury Award. It was also screened at the 46th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, the 11th Asia Pacific Screen Awards, and the Cinemalaya.  PARTY ‘ROUND THE GLOBE (2017) also screened around the world such as the Edinburgh International Film Festival, Vilnius International Film Festival. His most recent title CRY (2019) won the Japanese Cinema Splash for the Best Director Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival.
