Synopsis
Along the deep Amazon forest, a film director searches for a language that was imposed to the Indigenous population during the colonization period. Through this mixed language, Nheengatu, and sharing the filming with the local population, the film is built through the meeting of these two worlds.
About the director
José Barahona
José Barahona studied Cinema in Lisbon, Cuba and Nova York. His recent films are NHEENGATU - THE LANGUAGE FROM THE AMAZON FOREST (2020), CLANDESTINE SOUL (2018), I WAS IN LISBON AND REMEMBERED YOU (2015) and THE LOST MANUSCRIPT (2010), all presented in several festivals worldwide and released in Brazil and/or Portugal. A book about THE LOST MANUSCRIPT was published with a preface by Nelson Pereira dos Santos. THE SURVIVORS (2023) is his second fiction feature film written with the awarded writer José Eduardo Agualusa, from Angola.
