ROSE PLAYS JULIE | Ireland

Joe Lawlor, Christine Molloy 2020 1h 40m

Synopsis

In Rose Plays Julie, the adopted Rose sets out to find her birth mother Ellen, only to discover that her conception happened under horrifying circumstances. Rose’s determination to track down her father, Peter, is the catalyst for the film’s sensitive, unflinching exploration of the impact of male violence and the devastating shortcomings of a justice system that continually fails victims. //Rose is a veterinary student whose complicated feelings around being adopted make her feel as though she hasn’t become the person she was meant to be. Her education takes a back seat when she decides to track down her birth parents and takes on another persona in the process. With creepy imagery and consistently building tension, the film depicts Rose’s evolving identity as she tracks down her birth mother, a mildly successful television actress, and her biological father (The Game of Thrones Aidan Gillen), a well-known archaeologist.
