PAWA
Synopsis
In the desert of La Guajira, a Wayuu girl named Indira sets out on a journey with her grandmother to sell the largest turkey in their ranchería. By doing so, they hope to cope with the drought, eat something other than chicha, and buy school supplies for the start of classes. As we accompany them on their journey, we are drawn closer to their everyday landscape and to a patient, attentive gaze that shapes a distinctive cinematic search, one in which the film feels attuned to the rhythms of the community. In the end, the turkey’s only potential buyer mocks Indira’s bilingualism, but her dignity ultimately asserts its place.
