Between 2014 and 2022, Ukrainian cinema has shown a vitality that is still too often ignored, carried by a generation that is in direct contact with the political and aesthetic issues of the present. It is this youth and vitality that FID has chosen to highlight, with this program, proposed in partnership with Institut Français, bringing together short films, made between 2014 and 2022 by young Ukrainian artists and directors, living and working in Ukraine.
Some are directly linked to the conflict that divides the country and testifies what it is like to live with this anguish, on the verge of catastrophe. Others express their concern for the world in experiences more distant from the immediate political events. All have in common the invention of singular forms and writings, far from any convention.
