Discovering Swiss animation cinema
In partnership with the Solothurn Film Festival, we are pleased to present a curated selection of 15 vibrant short films by the three leading pioneers of Swiss animation, Claude Luyet, Georges Schwizgebel, and Daniel Suter, founders of Studio GDS.
Each year at the Solothurn Film Festival, the “Rencontre” program pays tribute to a personality of Swiss cinema and presents a selection of their works. This year, for the first time, they devoted a retrospective to animation cinema, honoring the three founders of the Geneva-based Studio GDS, Claude Luyet, Georges Schwizgebel, and Daniel Suter. Their creations delve into restless dreams, human nature, and unforeseen twists and turns — essentially, they explore the essence of life. Since its inception in 1971, GDS has embodied a collective and individual spirit, serving as a creative community driven by a preference for pragmatism.
